Cherry Cinnamon Kolaches Recipe

These little pillows of flavorful cinnamon cream cheese and sweet cherries are considered the epitome of pastries by many. The tart cherries offer a nicely contrasting burst of flavor, and the rich dough is made with eggs and milk.

2 cups whole milk ½ cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons vegetable oil ½ cup butter 2 ⅓ teaspoons yeast 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 3 eggs, divided 5 ½ cups all purpose flour 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened 2 tablespoons whole milk 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling

Heat two cups of milk over the stovetop or in the microwave until it reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Stir in ½ cup sugar, ½ cup butter, vegetable oil, and 1 teaspoon salt.

 Stir very gently. Stir into the wet mixture half of the flour, then two eggs, and finally the remaining flour, alternating between them.

For approximately five minutes, keep kneading the dough until a smooth ball forms. After covering, give it an hour to rise.

To make a thick cream, stir together 2 tablespoons milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and softened cream cheese.

A teaspoon of water and the remaining egg are whisked together to create an egg wash. Make 12 balls out of the dough.

Bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Every ball should be flattened. Make a hole in the middle of each ball for the filling with your finger.

3–4 cherries from the cherry pie filling should be placed atop each roll. Using an egg wash brush, coat every roll.

When serving, add a dusting of powdered sugar, if preferred, and let it cool slightly.
